Varsity Coaching Staff:

Mike Lindman - Head Coach
Coach Lindman is in his 25th year of coaching football. Previous coaching experience includes 14 years at Garden City High School where he was the head junior varsity football coach, and also spent time as a varsity assistant. In 2000 he began coaching at South Lyon High School and coached there for 8 years. His first football season at South Lyon East was in 2008, the first year the school had a varsity football team. He is currently in his third year at South Lyon East High School as a football coach. Before becoming the Head Football Coach at East, he was the schools Defensive Coordinator and Special Team’s Coordinator. Prior to coaching at East, he was the Defensive Coordinator and Special Team’s Coordinator at South Lyon High School.
Other coaching experience includes 7 years of coaching high school baseball. Currently he is the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at South Lyon East High School.
Coach Lindman attended Wayne State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating from Wayne State he attended the University of Detroit and obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.
In 1980 Coach Lindman started a career in law enforcement with the Garden City Police Department. He retired in 2006 after a 26 year career. He retired as the Deputy Chief of Police.
Coach Lindman is married; his wife’s name is Tish. They currently have a son Matt who attends South Lyon East and is playing football at the school. Other adult children include Brent and Ariel.

Tom Bisio - Defensive Coordinator

Rex Malarik - Offensive Line
This is Rex’s 3rd season with the team as an Offensive Line Coach. He is very excited to be working with a complete roster of players; all of whom have proven themselves. Rex played his high school football at Fruitport. There in his senior year he was selected to the Detroit Free Press’s All State 2nd team. He played his college football at Alma College where he was a four year letterman. Rex is marred to Peggy and has 4 children. Rex earned a BS in Physics from Alma College and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State. He is Engineering Specialist in Noise & Vibration at General Motors.

Junior Varsity Head Coach:

Ray Givens
Coach Givens has been coaching for about 29 years. He has previously coached in South Lyon, Novi, Plymouth-Canton, Redford Thurston, and other schools as a trouble shooter for wrestling programs. He spent eight years as Head Wrestling Coach at Plymouth-Canton. Coach Givens was inducted into the South Lyon Athletic Hall of Fame for football and wrestling. He was the first 1,000 Yard Rusher in the school's history. He was also a league and state standout in wrestling. In college wrestling he was awarded the Jr. College National Championship, the NCAA Div 1 National Championship, and the USWA National Championship. He is employed by Northville Public Schools, Operations Dept. Coach Givens is married to wife, Teri, and has two sons, Vincent and Jacob.
Freshman Head Coach:

Chris O'Brien
Coach Chris O'Brien has been involved in the game of football for over 20 years. He played football as an Offensive Tackle for Brother Rice High School for four years where he earned a full ride scholarship to Central Michigan University. During his five seasons at Central, Chris earned several awards including Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award, Leadership and Motivation Award, First Team All-Mac and Honorable Mention All-American. After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in History, Chris was signed as a Free Agent by the Philadelphia Eagles. After an injury to his shoulder, Chris made the decision to work at his family's Carbide Cutting Tool business in Farmington.
Chris did return to football playing on a Semi-pro team for three years while working at his family business. Chris is currently in his fourth year of coaching for the Black Panther Football team and is working as Vice President of his family's business. It is an honor for Chris to be offered the opportunity to work for South Lyon East as the Freshman Head Football Coach. He is looking forward to an amazing year! Chris is married to Ellen and has four children, Alex, Brendan, Emily and Ava.

Shon Roarty - Receivers, Defensive Backs and Special Teams
Shon has been a life long resident of South Lyon. Shon graduated from South Lyon High in 1987 where he played football and basketball. Shon has a BS in Production Management from Ferris State University. Shon has coached baseball, softball, lacrosse and football in the past 10 years. In football Shon was an Assistant Coach for 3 years and Head Coach for the past 2 years for the Panther Gold teams where his team won the first Panther Championship for Varsity. Shon lives with his wife (Tracy) of 17 years and 4 of his 5 children Mattie, Bryce, Jordan, Alyssa and Ashley.
